September Worship Series Announced

August 31, 2010

Origins: How we got here; where we’re going

This September, Quest will be celebrating its second anniversary. We thought this would be a good time to take a trip down memory lane. This series will take a brief look at some of the foundational events in our short history. As we look back, however, our goal is to move forward… into the future… .the future God has in mind for Quest. Please join us on this adventure!

September 5 - Katrina: Being the Face of Christ

BEING the face of Christ in the community – ie, living out, putting our faith into practice – was in our DNA and at the core of what we believed prior to the formation of Quest. On this Sunday, which is also just following the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we are going to look back at some life-changing trips made by disciples of Jesus who now participate in this quest. What did we learn about ourselves… about our God and our relationship with God… about the world on these trips? Can these past experiences serve to guide and direct us in future endeavors to “Be the Face of Christ”?.

September 12 - How We Came Up with Our Name

Quest may seem like a rather strange name for a church. When most people in the Kansas City area hear that name, they immediately think of a company by that name that is part of the medical community. (At least we’re both in the healing business!) On this Sunday, we will recall what led us to this choice of names… how God was at work inviting us to seize our divine moment… and what it means to live out our quest.

September 19 - The Big 8

What comes to your mind when you hear or see “The Big 8”? Some sports organization like the Big 10 or the Big 12 (for those who don’t already know, these are college conferences)? Well, at Quest, “The Big 8” has nothing to do with playing a sport… but it does have a lot to do with living life… an abundant life filled with exciting adventures following Jesus. This Sunday we will discuss the significance of “The Big 8” and how they came to be.

September 26 - From Origins > Directions for the Next Year

In a sense, this Sunday is where “the rubber hits the road”. Look back and remembering our history is important. It helps us remember who we are and why we came to be. But it also helps us prepare for the future. Can you imagine the Kansas City Chiefs (pick another team if you must!) not reviewing last week’s game tape? They need to learn from what they did… both the good and the bad. In the same way, we look back in order to better fulfill God’s mission as we move into the future. Our assignment this Sunday is to peek into the future we believe God is calling towards.
